Notice from the Okanogan County Conservation District:
The Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) draft is currently available for public comment! We are taking comments throughout the next two weeks from 9/16 - 9/30. Additionally, there will be a final public meeting on Wednesday, September 25th in the Okanogan PUD Auditorium at 6:45pm. CWPP partners and community members are invited to discuss the document, comments or questions, and next steps. Please note that this meeting is not a formal public hearing.
To access and review the CWPP draft and/or leave a comment: Visit the Okanogan CD website at www.okanogancd.org/cwpp and view and download a pdf of the draft. You can also visit us in-person at our office at 1251 2nd Ave S, Room 102, Okanogan, WA. Please make an appointment with Eli Loftis (contact information below) if you wish to make in person comment.
Comments should be sent to Eli Loftis at eli@okanogancd.org no later than September 30th, 2024. When submitting a comment, please reference specific sections, sub-sections, and/or page numbers so we can accurately capture your response.

Monday, September 16, 2024 AM
• Commissioner Hover tries to attend the meeting via Zoom, but the sound is not adjusted correctly. He can barely hear and barely be heard.
• Lanie Johns and someone from Central Services try for about 25 minutes to fix the audio problems, and then the sound goes off altogether.
• Pete Palmer, Director of Planning updates the commissioners, but cannot be heard by anyone not in the room. She is still talking when the AV Capture video ends at 9:37.

Tuesday, September 17, 2024 AM
• Public Comment; Ruth Hall asks if a decision has been made regarding the BOCC candidate's challenge to the Voters' Registration, decision was made and is on the Auditor's website under voter registration challenge. (case dismissed)
• Board questions responsibility of the Drug Task Force to maintain county building or if this is a BOCC responsibility, being close to the Sheriffs' new building, may need to extend sewer system to this other building or combine land parcels. Also Community Action looking at a building out Engh Road that needs infrastructure- could have asked for ARPA funds.
• Budgeting/Finance Committee with the Treasurer and Auditor:1.
o revenue and expenditures,.
o investments (interest rates expected to lower soon),
o how to work with Chelan Co and Carolon for administration of Opioid Settlement funds - $917,167 so far
o scheduling budgeting sessions with different departments,
o State Auditor audit -entrance exam, considering asking EMS Districts to act like Fire Districts.
• Hearing for Ziply Franchise continued – no agreement yet
• County Engineer reports on Public Works update;
o working on dirt roads where there is access to water,
o upcoming road projects; Mazama and Foster Bridge,
o Loomis Kiosk discussion,
o Asphalt contracts approved by the Board,
o SnoPark lack of funding.
• Lengthy discussion with Consultant from TD & H Engineering regarding the water system at the fairgrounds; considering drilling new well, and other details for upgrade.
• Board recessed at 12:52.

Tuesday, September 17, 2024 PM
• City of Okanogan requires to-be-built morgue/sheriff’s storage building and existing task force building on Railroad Avenue be hooked to sewer system, bid period extended, strategies discussed
• HR director presents job description for possible hire of county administrator; duties would include overseeing budget, union negotiations, collaboration with commissioners...; Board is “on board” but to accommodate $150,000 salary, WSU Extension might have to go
• Juvenile services chief discusses architects’ tour of facility; needs include overhaul of video system, new showers; population higher this year, more mental health issues; new laws may raise age of detainees to 25
• Commissioner Branch evokes need for water resource manager to run water bank, will include this request in grant application from Ecology
• Amendment passed to pay for sheriff vehicles, lieutenant’s salary, security services out of current expense fund; Community Action allocation approved
• Whistler Canyon to get water line
