Spring job opportunities with WDFW fisheries research

Post by elliottberger » Fri Mar 15, 2024 10:55 pm

Are you a science-minded individual with a love for fish? Do you want to get into fisheries research but don't know where to start? Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is currently hiring for three 3-month positions lasting from April into June (perfect timing for seasonal workers waiting to start other jobs!).

Primary job duties will be to assist more experienced staff on smolt traps located on the Methow and Twisp rivers, capturing and collecting data on out-migrating juvenile salmonids. The majority of the duration of the positions will be conducted at night, ideally on a 10 pm - 7 am shift for four days, followed by a 7 pm - 11 pm shift.

Knowledge of fish not strictly necessary, we are willing to teach what needs to be taught to the right candidate, but a genuine interest and love for them is certainly encouraged! The best candidates for the positions will be ones who are quick learners, have a strong and reliable work ethic, and are willing to work long nights around moving water.

Applications are due buy 3/24/2024 by 11:59 PM. To apply, and for more details, please make an account at careers.wa.gov and search for the job announcement *03422-24. Email me at Elliott.Berger@dfw.wa.gov for any questions about the position or application process that you may have.
