Burst pipe! Plumber or handman needed for repair
We had a copper pipe on an outside wall in our crawlspace burst last night.
I didn't look at it too closely in the hubub but it looked like it was insulated and ran in deep fiberglass batting but must have just got a bit too cold
Regardless, we need someone, ideally today, to sweat in a repair. I used to know how to do this (sort of) but it was like 35 years ago so I really need someone knowledgeable. Good access 4-5ft ceiling, not invasive, etc. We are in Edelweiss
Any ideas?

Hello, Shark Bites(spelling?) may remedy your situation. Ace carries some. Goggle it, very easy to do yourself. Good luck!

Yup shark-bite fittings and a piece of pex pipe. Course not knowing were the break is can't be sure.

did you get it fixed yet? I'm no plumber but live in edelweiss and might be able to help you.

Thanks for the offer.
The burst section ended up being a length that was a threaded connection to an exterior line. I disconnected it and capped the live end for now. That should hold until the spring and then I can figure the rest out
The one issue bouncing around in my mind is whether this was a Black Swan type cold event/bad luck or if this is something I should plan for regularly. If the latter, I might think differently about some things

We haven't been anywhere near the record cold for this time of year, so I would think a redesign would be in order.

I 3rd Bob. The temperature on our balcony got down to -26 last year.

What does seem to be different this year is the lack of huge piles of snow against the house, which provide extra insulation. Lacking that, some might experience outside wall pipe freezing where they didn't in the past.

I 4th Bob. And this is not a Black Swan event. Look at the history of the Valley when all the orchards froze, then other times. Perhaps if it happened say, in Sept. for 3 weeks or more, then I would say Black Swan.
