I did make a hollow book once when I was a kid, but never had anything I needed to keep hidden, so it eventually got tossed.

There are still incandescent bulbs to be had on Ebay and other places, but you have to read their listings very carefully as they don't always disclose the type of bulb clearly.

I have read that unlike other colors, green LED light can actually reduce headaches. Worth checking out.
