Re: Logging on the Golden Doe?
Thanks for the heads up, Susan. What would WDFW be doing managing logging in Golden Doe? Let's find out.

Re: Statewide Drought Declared
According to a weather outlook bulletin released Thursday (4/18) by the National Weather Service, we’re in for a hot start to summer. The highest probabilities of an extra-hot onset to summer are found in the Northeast, Washington state, New Mexico, south Texas and southern Florida. If I'm reading N...

Statewide Drought Declared
Unfortunately, as of today (4/16), the Department of Ecology has declared a drought emergency for most of Washington. As chances for significant additions to the state's snowpack diminish, there is simply not enough water contained in mountain snow and reservoirs to prevent serious impacts for water...

New Long-Range NOAA Forecast
Just out today (3/21) a new long-range forecast from NOAA's Climate Prediction Center is predicting nearly all U.S. states are leaning toward warmer-than-average weather this spring. The forecast speaks in terms of probabilities—not certainties—and we could still see some cooler, rainy weather but t...

Re: Russian thistle removal
Worked as a Weed Warrior many years ago for a couple of seasons. Here's what I remember about eradicating Russian Thistle by hand: —Wait until the plants are several inches or more out of the ground and the soil is fairly saturated before attempting to pull by hand. —Make sure you get the entire tap...

Re: Power outage
Just talked to P.U.D. There is a pole down in the vicinity and "they are aware and working on the fix." Power expected to be restored in about an hour (10:00 PM). Hope that helps.

Re: Sunny Daze in 2023
Thanks for the look back, ciderman. Weather-watching is such a great hobby that never ends. I grew up and lived all over Colorado—much sunnier. Put in twenty years in Bellingham—much cloudier—the marine climate Lupinelover references. We'll just have to wait and see what 2024 has in store for us. It...

One Year Ago—Twenty Below
Hard to believe it but true. One year ago tonight, the temperature dropped to -20°F in Twisp. And on 12/22/22, it was even colder: -25°F. If tonight's expected low temperature remains 32°F, it would mean a year-over-year temperature swing of +50°F. As the remaining snow around our home disappears, s...

Re: Bioregional Mapping Project - input?
Thanks for sharing this. I enjoyed your mapping project—especially your highlighting the perimeters of the wildfires over the last fifty years. This feature clearly demonstrates the scale of destruction to large areas of Canada lynx, wolverine, and gray squirrel habitat shared with other species of ...

Bravo Cascadia Concert
We attended the second night of the Cascadia Holiday Concert last evening. The music and good cheer are still reverberating. Wonderful selections from Vivaldi to a Mel Torme classic, sung and performed by our local, and very talented, musicians and singers. If you missed it, there's a Spring Concert...
